How it works
Both documents are parsed and compared structurally, not as text: reordering keys or changing indentation is not a difference. Each change is reported with its JSONPath. Arrays are compared position by position.

Why is an inserted array item reported as many changes?
Arrays are compared index by index, so inserting an item shifts the following ones. This keeps results predictable for ordered data.
