How it works

M4A is an MP4 container holding AAC audio — the format of iPhone voice memos and iTunes purchases. Your browser decodes the AAC and the audio is re-encoded to MP3 with the LAME encoder. DRM-protected files (old iTunes purchases, Apple Music) can't be converted. Works the same for OGG, OPUS, FLAC and WebM audio.
