How it works
The size of an MP3 depends almost only on its bitrate and duration: size ≈ bitrate × duration ÷ 8. A one-hour podcast is 57 MB at 128 kbps but 29 MB at 64 kbps mono — with no audible difference for speech. Lower sample rates (22 or 16 kHz) remove high frequencies, fine for voice but noticeable on music.
