How it works
Percentage increase = (new value − original value) ÷ original value × 100. From 80 to 100 the increase is 20 ÷ 80 = 25%. To increase a number by a percentage, multiply it by (1 + percentage ÷ 100): 250 + 15% = 250 × 1.15 = 287.5.
FAQ
Why is +50% then −50% not back to the start?
Because the second percentage applies to a bigger number: 100 + 50% = 150, and 150 − 50% = 75.
What if the result is negative?
Then it's a decrease. Use the Percentage Decrease Calculator for a clearer wording.
