SHA-256 Generator
Compute the SHA-256 hash of any text instantly.
SHA-1 is broken for security use. Collisions can be produced, so don't rely on it for signatures or integrity against an attacker. It is fine for legacy checksums only.

How it works
SHA-256 (part of the SHA-2 family) turns any input into a 256-bit fingerprint, written as 64 hex characters. The same input always gives the same hash, the slightest change gives a completely different one, and it's practically impossible to find the input from the hash or two inputs with the same hash. It's used for file checksums, digital signatures, Bitcoin and certificates.
For passwords, don't store a plain SHA-256: use a slow, salted algorithm like PBKDF2, bcrypt or Argon2.
